Why is it ok for an adult to diet but not a child

Heya
Im twelve and im going on a diet, im not absolutely disgustingly fat but my belly does stick out a bit,,,i weigh about 87 pounds for those wondering and im about 5ft,,,and Im going to start dieting, having 500 cals a day instead of 1000 ect, when im 13, everyone is telling me im stupid and yet when my mum, who isnt fat at all says she is everyone accepts it! Its soooo unfair!

Yeah, you're still growing, & ur body desperately needs nutrients more than a fully grown body. Do not cut ur calories like that. Instead, cut out candies, sodas, & other snack or fatty foods, & eat more vegetables. Cut down on red meats & stick to lean ones like fish or chicken. Drink plenty of water. Most of all, exercise. It is exercise that will help u lose ur extra weight.

You're too young to diet like an adult simply because u have not finished growing. It is not a matter of acceptance.

500 is way to little for anyone
and it is not ok for only an adult to diet
no matter what age you are you should be allowed to diet
especially at your age as you would bring the fat into adulthood

Hi,

You do not need to ''Diet just learn what foods to eat & which to avoid. You do not need to cut calories, since they r the ones that give u energy & r use for many functions in the body including the overall growth.

If u r cutting calories by avoid junk food, sodas, sweets, friend, etc.. then that is good, but u need to replace those lost calories with good foods such as whole grain cereals, oatmeal, whole bread, fruits, vegetables, etc..

You just need to find a balance.

your body is still growing and needs the nutrition from food. and by the way, 87 lbs is NOT fat by any means at all even at 5''0. Im 5''2 and 108 & l have almost no fat on my stomach. If you lose any more weight you will look nasty & guys do not like nasty girls!

there is nothing wrong with a child eating correctly.

in fact, if more parents would teach their kids how to eat correctly, we would not have an obesity problem. or an anorexia problem either. the problem is, most parents have no idea what they r talking about when it comes to eating correctly. even most doctors do not have the best advice.

one problem l see with ur plan is just a misperception u have.

it seems like u believe that its as easy as cutting calories to lose fat. its not.

at ur current weight, u should eat 1200 calories every day. in a perfect scenario, ur tummy will flatten out but ur scale weight will remain the same, maybe even rise. how is this possible? its called body re-composition. meaning we drop bodyfat but gain muscle.

everyone, girls & boys, can use more muscle, since muscle burns fat.just sitting there reading my reply, ur muscle is burning fat. & ur fat, is not burning any fat. its only keeping u warm.

also, start an exercise program. get active.

do not worry, you're not stupid, u just do not know a better way. & hence, my reply to you.
