BMI scale question??? ?

According to the BMl thing, l am overweight... close to obese. But l exercise everyday, do not over-eat, know l am healthy, and am no where close to looking like I am obese. Sooo, l do not understand what is going on and why my BMl says what it does.

l agree. BM l does not make any sense at all. According to BMI, most NHL players would be considered overweight. It is retarded. Email me though, l am curious about what you're exercise and eating consists of.

ignore the online BM l calculators. they do not take into account muscle mass or bone structure (or even breast size).

BM l is pretty lame.
l worked out 6 days a week in high school and competed in weight-lifting competitions and my BM l was always ''overweight''

Athletes are particularly prone to being categorized as ''overweight'' on the BM l test.

Try to find a place to get your body fat % read, and that will be a more accurate read of your overall health.

The BM l was invented in the 1800s by a statistician named Adolph Quetelet. He wanted to see the height-to-weight ratio of his fellow countrymen. He specifically stated that the BM l is not used to judge how healthy someone is.

Knowing this, it is amazing that it is so widely used. The BM l has several known flaws, & yet, people keep caring about it. l have no idea why. Just focus on ur heath. Keep up the good work!

Along with BMI, one should take into consideration muscle mass & bone structure.

If you're have a large body-type (if ur thumb & pointer finger cannot touch when placed around the opposite wrist) then ur normal weight will be about 10# more than is listed in the BM l chart.

Do not try to be thin, but instead ur goal should be to be in shape & able to do whatever it is that u like to do. Keep active.

You say that u do not over-eat, but r ur portions ''American-sized'' or healthy-sized? Are u eating because ur bored?
Are u eating processed/fast foods?

You're doing good by exercising, & now make sure that u r also eating healthy. Eat more raw foods than processed.
Processed foods r poison for the most part, especially when you're trying to lose weight & be healthy.

Well how much do you weigh? Find out your height and weight and then go get your body fat percentage and ask a dr if you are overweight or not. BM l calculators are not always correct♥

The problem with BM l is that it tries to generalize u status with two factors - height & weight. Take the following example:

Subject #1:
Height: 6'1''
Weight: 260#
Bodyfat: 35%
BMI: 34.3 - Obese


Subject #2:
Height: 6'1''
Weight: 260#
Bodyfat: 6%
BMI: 34.3 - Obese

Subject #1 is a couch potato who believes that exercise is what he does to go to the refrigerator. Subject #2 is a gym rat who works out 6 days per week. Both have the same BM l but #2 is far from being obese. This is the problem with the BM l scale is that is generalizes everyones build, frame, & fitness level into one category. This just does not work.

To get a good indication of where u r at, use bodyfat percentage instead. Throughout ur fitness program, get this checked every 4 weeks to gage ur progress.
